Thanksgiving
(I apologize for the delay, didn't realize this post has been in the draft state the entire time.)
Well, Thanksgiving is tomorrow and it is the day that dieters hate the most aside from Christmas gatherings. Don’t let it get you down, just remember who you’re with and enjoy the day. Its about being thankful so do that. Be thankful. God has given us so much and we have been blessed with so much so remember that even though you’re overweight you’re still alive. Don’t forget to thank yourself for working on making your body healthy. Life is hard so take the time tomorrow and simply enjoy the day. I recently read some really good steps to take to keep yourself from having a guilt-trip about everything you eat. 1) Take some time to decide which foods you want to enjoy tomorrow. Do it before you sit down to eat. 2) Choose to eat dishes that are just served on Thanksgiving; avoid those that show up at every meal. 3) Make the holiday about more than just food. Focus on your friends and family and remember what you’re thankful for. Yes, those are three very simple steps but use them and don’t go overboard on the food. When you get your food don’t put too much on your plate, don’t go back for seconds, and do NOT graze. As I’ve said before grazing is the worst thing you could ever do to your diet.
I am in charge of our desserts this year and I used to make a pecan pie every year so this is really hard for me because everyone is expecting that pecan pie but I really want to make a healthier dessert. I’ll probably end up doing the pecan pie simply because I haven’t had time to find a workable recipe or a completely different dessert that I can eat. If I do end up making it I’ll just share my piece with Ron so that I don’t have to feel too guilty about all the calories.
On another note my brother is coming home and he’s bringing another airman that couldn’t go home for the holiday. Its going to be quite a huge group with us this year and I love it. We always wake up and watch the parade with color commentary by my husband and cook. Its very relaxing and one of my favorite if not my favorite part of the day. Another one of our traditions is to go shopping on Friday and watch all the crazies but I think they’ll be gone by the time we get out there because so many stores are opening up tomorrow! Its Thanksgiving, retail you should not be open on Thanksgiving!! I’m not going to jump on that soapbox but I don’t like the idea of the “Black Friday” deals on Thanksgiving and I wish they would change it and not do that anymore. Ok I’m done with that! Everyone enjoy Thanksgiving and remember to ENJOY the day!
