5 pound gain and a more positive outlook!
I am one lucky person. I have such a great support system around me. I gained 5 pounds this week and yet I lost 7 last week. Its extremely discouraging to step on the scale and see almost nothing happen especially when your life depends on it. No, I’m not going to die anytime soon but if I don’t lose this weight I will die at an early age. I am 27 years old and I have high blood pressure, I’m pre diabetic, and I get cysts on my uterus and ovaries. The latter may not be due to weight but my doctor said that weight loss will help especially if I want children because those symptoms could lead to polycystic ovarian syndrome (pcos) I haven’t been tested yet because I don’t have the finances. My husband and I are on a tight budget with no health insurance so its a little tough to get all of our health issues under control. He has type 2 diabetes himself and the only thing we know that will help with most of it is to lose the weight; which is why we are determined to do this.
It is hard when you see a weight gain instead of a weight loss but don’t hold yourself accountable to just the scale because sometimes your body doesn’t want to work with you and you have to change something. I use the scale as simply a measurement tool. It helps me see the progress that I don’t see in the mirror and if it goes up then I have to reassess what I am doing and find out what I'm doing wrong, if it goes down then I should continue doing what I’m doing. Comparing to what I did last week versus what I did this week I believe I have narrowed it down to what I did. It has nothing to do with my work out because I actually stepped up my workout routine this week. The difference was my diet; I ate shrimp this week and a lot of it. This wasn’t regular boiled shrimp it was fried, I can’t lie its a weakness of mine; anything seafood is a weakness. The bad thing about it is seafood makes you retain water extremely bad so when you eat shrimp and then turn around and drink 2 powerade zeroes in a day then yeah you’ll retain a lot of water. Sodium is important for your body but too much hinders your workout goal. Powerade zero has 250mg of sodium which is not a lot unless you add it to fried shrimp and other foods that are heavy in salt. Knowing this I’ve decided to cut out my powerade intake to once a day which will be after my workout. I'm also cutting down my Sodium intake to 1500mg because that is what the amount a person with High Blood pressure should be taking. Hopefully this will help with my progress next week. My friends and family were so sweet to me when I mentioned it on facebook and it makes me so proud to have such positivity in my life I’m very thankful.
Let me know of your tough times that your friends and family helped you through! I’d love to hear about it.
Till next time,
Ashley
P.S. We’re making sushi tonight and we’re going to film it so that should be our next video :) (No soy sauce though!)
